2012 SoFA EXHIBITION
INSTRUCTION FOR SUBMITTING IMAGES FOR JURYING
Jurying: Saturday, July 7
Hanging: Thursday, July 26
Reception: Friday, July 27
Takedown: Friday, August 3
Date and place: Jurying will take place on July 7, in the club’s regular meeting room at the First Presbyterian Church. Please drop off your images between 11:00 and 12:00 am. The room will be closed when jurying begins at 12:00 and no images will be accepted after that time. Jurying will conclude by 3:00. Please return at 3:00 to pick up your images.
Number of submissions and cost: You may submit up to four images, at a cost of $2.00 per image, payable by cash or check on the day of jurying.
Requirements for submission:(1) To submit images for the SoFA exhibition, you must be a member of the Bloomington Photography Club. (2) No image that has appeared in any previous exhibition sponsored by the club can be submitted. (3) Images shown in exhibitions that were not sponsored by the club are eligible for submission. (4) Images that were submitted to a previous SoFA jurying but were not accepted can be resubmitted. Note: Please be aware that photographs portraying the work of other artists, and of some particular places, often may not legally be offered for sale without permission of the artist or organization. This includes, for example, sculptures and paintings, and buildings on the campus of Indiana University. You may submit such photographs, but they should be listed as Not for Sale (NFS).
Guidelines for images submitted for jurying: (1) All images must be two-dimensional photographic images, printed on paper. Please note that images printed on canvas and wrapped on a wood frame, or other images not designed for traditional framing, will not be accepted for this exhibition because they are outside the guidelines given to the club by the School of Fine Arts Gallery. (2) There is no requirement as to the size of images submitted. (3) Images must be matted but not framed and must have a firm backing. Please be sure the mats are securely attached to the backing. (4) White or off-whitematting is perferred, however colored mats are acceptable. No patterned, fabric textured, glossy/metalic mats will be accepted. (5) The images should not be shrink-wrapped. (6) If you have, for example, three images that you wish to present together as one image (i.e. as a triptych), they must be contained within a single mat. (7) Stereoptic images may be submitted.
Hint: It’s a good idea to spread your images around the room for the jurying, rather than keeping them all together.
Identifying information: There should be no indication of your name on the image or on the front of the mat. If you are using a mat that you have previously signed, please place a blank post-it note over the signature. Each image must have, attached to the back, the “post-it” form that is supplied by the club. The forms will be available at the club's June 5 regular club meeting, and more will be available at Printmasters (1200 North College). The form asks for your name, email, and phone number; the name of the image; and the purchase price or “NFS” (not for sale).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR EXHIBITING
Frames: (1) Frames should be simple and preferably of metal, though a narrow dark wood frame is also okay. Ornate wood frames such as those used for oil paintings or watercolors are not acceptable because of the SoFA Gallery’s guidelines for exhibits. Brightly colored frames should not be used. Frames can be black, bronze, dark green, or dark blue; silver and gold are also okay. (2) All frames must have a wire across the back for hanging. Do not use the saw-toothed-type hanger that attaches at the top of the frame. (3) All images must be under glass. Plain window-type glass is fine. Non-glare glass is okay, but tends to dull the image and is more expensive than plain glass. Museum glass, which is also non-glare but does not dull the image, is much more expensive than plain glass.
Identification: You may sign your image either within the image, on the mat, or on the back. But whether or not you do this, please be sure that your name and the title of the image are on the back, so that the people hanging the show will know it’s yours.
