What Judges are Looking For with Chris Williams

Are you thinking about entering a photography competition, but aren’t sure what to enter? Chris Williams will talk about the 12 elements that are used by judges at the Professional Photographers of America competitions.

Chris Williams is a Master Photographer and Certified Professional Photographer (CPP). He has won numerous awards in the Professional Photographers of America’s (PPA) annual international Photography Competition and his work has been selected for inclusion in PPA’s prestigious Loan Collection and General Collection. Chris’ work has been named Best of Show at the Indiana State Fair three times, and he is a three-time Indiana Photographer of the Year.

Chris is Executive Director of the Winona School of Professional Photography (the oldest photography school in America) and is president of the Daguerre Club of Indiana, the State’s most exclusive PPA affiliate.

He is a member of the Professional Photographers of America, the American Society of Photographers, the Indianapolis Professional Photographers Guild and the Daguerre Club of Indiana.

Chris Williams holds a Master of Adult Education degree from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana Wesleyan University. He also completed the Judges Workshop, conducted by the Professional Photographers of America.

Program: Presentation by Matt Willliams, the director of Conservation Programs at The Nature Conservancy in Indianapolis. His research and photographic specialty relates to the preservation of endangered bird species. In 2018 the Indiana University Press published his book, Endangered and Disappearing Birds of the Midwest. His two other IU Press books are The Complete Guide to Indiana State Parks (2018, with Nathan Strange), and Indiana State Parks: A Centennial Celebration (2015).

BPC Monthly Club Meeting

Guest Speaker: Speaker: Jeff Belth. "Since the mid-1990s, Mr. Belth's main artistic expression has been through photography, primarily of butterflies. His extensive field work and artistic background eventually led to the production of his book, Butterflies of Indiana: A Field Guidewhich he wrote, designed, and illustrated with his photographs. It was published by the Indiana University Press in November, 2012. The book garnered many positive reviews and accolades, including the 2013 National Outdoor Book Award for best Nature Guidebook." His presentation at our meeting will include discussion of his techniques and equipment, concluding with a selection of his favorite photos. Not to be missed!

L.A.W.N. Focus Group Meeting

L.A.W.N. stands for Landscape, Architectural, Wildlife, and Nature. All L.A.W.N. meetings are on the 2nd Monday of the month unless otherwise announced. We meet in the Monroe County History Center, 202 East 6th St. (Entrance is on N. Washington St.) The parking lot to the northeast of the building is metered but there is no charge after 5:30 p.m. at 7:00 pm. If possible, come a few minutes early to load up photos for the photoshare. At the start of each meeting, prior to the photoshare, we often have a 10-15-minute tech tip and discussion.

In addition to the monthly meetings, we have several outings during the year to places of photographic interest in Indiana and occasionally further afield.
