Title: The Indiana Limestone Photograph Collection: A Work in Progress
Several years ago the Indiana Geological Survey rescued a hidden collection of ~25,000 photographs from an unconditioned building north of Oolitic, Indiana. The photographs are primarily of buildings built with Indiana limestone (Mississippian Salem Limestone) and encompass industrialization and growth of our nation from the late 19th century forward. Most of the photographs are 7” x 9” in size and mounted on linen with a card glued on the back that provides metadata about the building. The Survey has completed a pilot project cleaning, scanning, cataloguing, and archiving about 1,200 photographs (http://webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/images/splash.htm?scope=images/VAC5094). We are waiting on additional funding to complete the project. This presentation will describe the collection and have several boxes available to examine.
