This excursion is not intended to be an official LAWN group field trip, but rather an unstructured opportunity for interested photographers (and friends) to see and photograph some of Columbus' collection of modern architecture and to enjoy visiting a nearby town with an unusual appreciation for good design. According to the Columbus Visitor Center (www.columbus.in.us), “The American Institute of Architects ranked Columbus sixth in the nation for innovation and design, right up there with San Francisco and Boston.” Neill Vaughn will be at  the K-Mart parking lot by Bloomingfoods East, at from 6:30 to 6:45 a.m. for those who want to set out early. Columbus is an easy 45-minute drive east of Bloomington on Hwy 46. When you get to Columbus, continue straight ahead a couple of miles to the downtown and follow the signs to the Visitor Center. That's where we will park, and we'll start photographing close by. The Visitor Center offers two-hour bus tours at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and there may be a 90-minute guided walking tour at 10:30 a.m. If you don't see Neill and others when you arrive, you can call him at 812-345-8937.
