Hocking Hills, which is a 4 1/2-hour drive from Bloomington, "provides a variety of recreational opportunities in a splendid natural setting. The 2,356-acre park has towering cliffs, waterfalls, and deep hemlock-shaded gorges that lure the hiker and naturalist and serve as a backdrop to popular facilities and accommodations." Reservations can also be made 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. by calling (866) 644-6727. It takes awhile to get through the recordings of cancellation policies but you will be connected to a real person who can answer questions and make a reservation for you. Time is of the essence!
Hocking Hills cabins, must be rented for at least two nights. The nearest lodge, with a restaurant, is at Lake Hope State Park, about 30 minutes from Hocking Hills; see http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/lakehopemedia. Lake Hope also has cabins, and they also must be rented for at least two nights. More expensive options nearby are Baymont Inn & Suites Logan pn: 740-385-1700, and Holiday Inn Express Hocking Hills-Logan pn: 740-385-7700.
Membership in the club is required for participation in field trips, but spouses/partners are welcome.
If you'd like to visit dramatic Robinson Falls (aka “Corkscrew Falls”) at nearby Boch Hollow State Nature Preserve http://trekohio.com/2016/07/10/boch-hollow-state-nature-preserve-robinson-falls/ you must first obtain a free permit from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources http://ohiodnr.gov/ Along with the permit, you will get a map showing the falls, where to park, directions, and preserve rules.
