BPC Perseid Meteor Shower Field Trip
Join us for a field trip to view and photograph the Perseid meteor shower on Sunday night, August 11, at Yellowwood State Forest from dusk until as late as anyone would like to stay, weather permitting. Sunset is around 8:45pm. We will update as the weather outlook becomes more certain.
This is usually the best meteor shower of the year, with up to 100 meteors per hour visible over the whole night sky. Note that the peak of the shower is toward early Monday morning. You may also catch a view of the Milky Way from this fairly dark site away from the lights of Bloomington.
We will gather at the north end of Yellowwood Lake. There is a restroom and ample parking for the picnic area and the adjacent group camping area.

The most direct route is east on SR46 to Yellowwood Rd., about a half hour drive from Bloomington. Bring camera equipment, a chair, bug spray, water, and a flashlight/headlamp, preferably red to preserve night vision.
