I am a research biologist and teacher who has used photography as a tool for documenting research results and obtaining visually compelling and informative images for teaching about the beauty and wonders of nature. I also have a keen interest in natural history and have learned that cameras provide ways to observe and learn about biological systems in their native context while spending time outdoors. As a scientist I particularly enjoy experimenting with techniques that reveal aspects of the natural world that might otherwise be unseen. During my presentation I will share with you some of my photographs and videos that exemplify the beauty and wonders of nature that we have in the environments around south-central Indiana. In the process I will also discuss some of the ways I’ve used photography in my scientific research, my classroom teaching, and in raising public awareness of the natural world in which we live.
