Indianapolis Field Trip - Rescheduled

This event was originally scheduled for March 30, then May 11 and was cancelled due to bad weather.

Itinerary:

9 AM – Leave for INDY from the Sam’s Club Lot on the West Side of Bloomington. We will park near the gas pumps. If you don’t wish to caravan, meet the group at 10:30 AM at the Morton Statue of the Indiana Statehouse/Capitol Building (200 W Washington St). The Morton Statue is at the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Market Street in Indianapolis.

  • Best Parking: 151 W Wabash. A surface lot (with just a ticket writer – bring cash) charging $10 for up to three hours. Other possibilities are Hilton at 120 W Market or 33 Capital but they are a much more expensive (hotel lots).

EVENT 1 - 10:30 AM – 11:45 AM. Historic Downtown Tour with guide. Meet the group at the Morton Statue (see above). Cost is $5 per person. The guide wants to cover all the material and that takes about 75 minutes. If you see a building of interest, feel free to photograph and catch up with the group later. Alternatively, take your own pictures of buildings and people and skip the tour.

  • 11:45 AM – 12:15 PM. Free time to photograph missed buildings or people opportunities. Then drive to Newfield’s – the Indianapolis Art Museum (4000 Michigan Road, Indianapolis).

  • 12:30 PM. Arrive and park at Newfield’s. Pay the reduced entrance of $12 per person then meet in the café. You can either eat a quick lunch or take deep breaths to clear the brain, warm up and virtuously lose weight.

EVENT 2 - 1 PM – 2 PM. Docent presentation about the Gardens and Greenhouse Flowers. This is a public walking tour (BPC and the general public). Tripods may not be used in the Greenhouse but may be used anywhere on the museum grounds.

  • 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Free time to photograph interesting opportunities and/or visit the museum and/or hit the café again!

EVENT 3 - 3:15 PM to 6 PM. Crown Hill Cemetery. Go from Newfield’s to 34th & Boulevard Place (South Gate of the Cemetery). Guided Tour from 3:30 – 5 PM ($10 per person / min $75 per group). Group has free time to photograph 5 – 6 PM. Note: South Gate closes at 5 PM, North Gate at 8 PM. So, be prepared to enter South and exit North Gates.

EVENT 4 - 6:30 PM. Dinner at Gray’s Brothers Cafeteria, 555 S Indiana St, Mooresville, IN 317-831-7234. After dinner, back home.
